Absolutely!! Ms. Beckham emailed us that the early release days have to be used for literacy training ONLY. I think blogging PD with actual examples for teachers would fit this category. You might want to approach her about this idea--especially since it is in our tech plan.

Software "approval" process needs to be addressed.
Instruction driving IT, not the other way around.

BTW, Emilie met with him when he was here last Wed...positive meeting from all that I heard.

see also - http://www.thejournal.com/articles/23643
Link to T.H.E. article by Dave Nagel on same topic. He also lists some skills covered in the map:
he 21st Century Skills and English Map is the second in a series of planned maps aimed at core subjects. The first covered social studies, which, accoding to the organization, has been well received. Ken Kay, president of the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, told us via e-mail, "The response has been phenomenal; social studies teachers and stakeholders across the country have let us know that the maps have benefited classroom practice."

The purpose is to provide a framework and resources for integrating technology and other 21st century skills into courses covering core subjects.

Specific skills covered by the map include:

    * Creativity and innovation;
    * Critical thinking and problem solving;
    * Communication;
    * Collaboration;
    * Information literacy;
    * Media literacy;
    * Information and Communication Technologies literacy (ICT literacy);
    * Flexibility and adaptability;
    * Initiative and self direction;
    * Social and cross-cultural skills;
    * Productivity and accountability; and
    * Leadership and responsibility.

21st Century Skills--that phrase is everywhere. Thank you for posting the NCTE map with concrete examples of the 2.0 tools in use. I'd like to send this to the East Cooper Librarians who are currently working on a smiliar "skills" project together.
I want to see our students enjoy what they do in school, like the books they read and take pride in their projects. No matter what we do, students seem to see us as such "old school" teachers.
I actually see a lot of teachers doing projects similar in nature to the ones in this "map" but not being able to take it to the next level because of technology limitations and blocked access.

What an awesome presentation! I love seeing all the Macs and iPods being used. I understand his argument about creating systematic change to take the focus off testing, but unfortunately, we still must figure out how to "play" within the system we have (which is heavily focused on testing) while we work on advocating for systematic change. Do we know if SLA is a charter or magnet school? How many students? I wonder if they formed a partnership with Apple.

Just watched the keynote while waiting for a plumber at home...having my cup of joe. I have been wanting to see a school that uses technology well and SLA is a good one. How do we get on the interview commitee for the CCSD Technology Administrator? How can we transform the district? Do we just start at Wando...start in the individual classrooms? Excellent PD, Larry. Thanks.
PS - notice the Macs?

Okay, so I have my picture on my page, but I can't get anything to go next to it. I would like to have my about me section on the left side of my homepage with my picture next to it on the right side, but it won't let me do it and I can't figure it out. I also tried putting the text in a table right next to it thinking it would be like a text box in word that you can place anywhere you want, but it didn't work! How do I put things wherever I want?

I very much like that in the sample list, "tomorrow" you have to remember to do your "TPS reports".
